Even cancer couldn’t crush a little girl’s spirit

I’ve been following this story since the local news picked it up in the hopes that Hailey’s dream would come true: to meet Justin Bieber. Hailey, a spirited 5-year-old from Mukwonago was diagnosed with AT/RT (Atypical teratoid rhaboid tumor), a rare form of brain cancer. She has already undergone several major surgeries and continues to push through chemotherapy and radiation.

Hailey’s story touched my heart and countless others, and when Justin Bieber came to town for a concert, he took some time to meet with her. Here is a link to Hailey’s story:  http://www.indiegogo.com/healinghailey?c=home

Fighting for women’s wellness worldwide

Last week I watched this amazing film called Half the Sky, a documentary about turning oppression into opportunity for women around the world. This 4-hour special chronicled the lives of these women as they faced abuse and poverty head on and tackled complicated issues such as sex trafficking, gender-based violence, maternal mortality and lack of access to education.

I am in awe of the strength of those who face such brutal attacks, lifelong trauma and hardships at every turn. It was encouraging to see how leaders from the countries highlighted in the film (Kenya, Cambodia, Somaliland and beyond) fought for women’s rights and in many cases, continue to risk their own safety on a daily basis for those in need.

If you have the chance to see this film, I highly recommend it! There is also a great website for learning more about those involved and the important issues: http://www.halftheskymovement.org/

I’ve found the phrase, “Don’t sweat the small stuff” to be quite beneficial in my life and it usually helps me avoid making a big deal out of nothing. There are a few things in life though that if changed, can help you feel a lot happier. This article by Paula Davis-Laack, JD, MAPP highlights some key ways to de-stress, live healthier and become more productive:
